Disability Equality Training

The biggest barrier experienced by disabled people can be other peoples negative attitude. Don't let your attitude become a barrier!
What is Equality?
Equality is about recognising that certain groups of people are stereotyped, marginalised, devalued and treated differently. Due to this, these groups of people have less access to education, training, employment and civil rights.
Equality is about accepting that different people in society have different needs, but equal rights.
Equality is about taking positive action and implementing measures to meet the needs of individuals and groups.
Equality is about changing organisational culture and working practices and procedures.
What is Disability Equality Training?
Disability Equality Training (DET) is about raising awareness and examining peoples' thinking about disability by looking at historical, cultural and social influences that have contributed to the segregation and exclusion of disabled people by our communities, families and society at large.
Why is DET important?
The Disability Discrimination Act (1995) has made it unlawful to discriminate against an individual for reasons relating to their impairment(s). Further, DET explores solutions that aim to eliminate discrimination and prejudice experienced by disabled people.
